First City Art Center is proud to announce "Clay On The Coast," a weekend workshop with Bill van Gilder.
There will be an opening reception on Friday from 6 - 8:30p.m. that is open to the public.
Saturday's workshop will be from 9a.m. - 4:30p.m. and Sunday's workshop will be from 9am - 4p.m. with breakfast and lunch provided each day.
During this two day, information-loaded, demo-workshop some 50+ making techniques will be demonstrated. Short cuts, tips and tool-use at the wheel, as well as hand-building funtional forms will be the focus.
Fee: $175 per person (maximum of 50)

Demonstration techniques at the wheel will include
Efficient hand positions for throwing
Simple tools and their use
Lid arrangements and form
Spout, rim and lip making and proportions
Trimming and food finishing possibilities
Faceting and fluting as decoration
Handles and lugs; pulled and hand built
Making bottle forms; throwing and trimming
Making squared and oval baking ware
Wet thick slip decoration
Brand new techniques are also always included in workshops
Hand-building demonstrations may include:
Slumped oval slab platter making
Humped squared plate making
Foot attachment possibilities; slab, sprigged & coiled
Textured decoration; wet slip, pressed, and resisted textures
