Intro to 3D Modeling & Printing

This 6-week class introduces artists to 3D printing as a creative medium. Students learn basic modeling, slicing, and printing techniques while developing their own artistic projects. The emphasis is on experimentation, sculptural thinking, and producing finished artworks.

Students will learn the basics of designing in a three dimensional digital space using CAD based software and gain an understanding of the necessary hardware to bring the digital ideas into the physical world.

Course Objectives

• Understand how FDM 3D printers work

• Learn beginner 3D modeling techniques

• Prepare files for printing using slicing software

• Operate a desktop 3D printer

• Explore finishing techniques

• Produce final artworks

Course Requirements: Laptop or Tablet with the ability to download 3D software

Course Tuition: $200 (member) $230 (non-member)

Classroom Location: Multimedia Classroom

When you arrive for class please use the De Soto Street entrance to enter the FCAC parking lot. You may park anywhere in the lot that is available, but please do not block cars from exiting. There are several parking spaces along Guillemard St. if you need closer parking than available in the parking lot.

The Multimedia Classroom is located in what used to be the FCAC admin offices (building with the butterfly mural – #6 on the map below)
