Mixed Media Painting & Collage Class
This dynamic course will combine 3 different classes throughout the 6 week session: Mixed Media Painting, Collage Painting, and Collage & Gelli Plate Paper Making.
Part 1 – Mixed Media Painting: this portion of class is designed to help you use all materials that will adhere to a canvas. A focal point of this workshop is to have fun and loosen up in your artistic endeavors – there are no rules! Prompts will be randomly pulled to choose color + material application. This workshop is designed to a fun and fast paced exercise. Flip canvas – fill in areas, scratch, scrap, lift paint out of areas
Part 2 – Collage Painting: this portion of class will teach you to paint with paper to create unusual paintings
Part 3 – Collage & Gelli Plate Paper Making: explore the endless ways to create colorful and unique papers to use for art journals, greeting cards, mixed media painting, etc. Start with gelli plate, staining papers, painting paper. Stencil & stamp making, visqueen cutting, foam stamps, card board

- Acrylic Paint
- Markers
- Pastels
- Charcoal
- Permanent Inks
- Matte Medium
- Catalyst
- Scissors
- 1-2 brayers
- Stencils
- Stamps
- 1-2 gelli plates (5×7 or 8×10)
- Assortment of Paint Brushes (short firm bristles approx. 1-1.5 in wide for applying papers to a surface)
- Collage Papers (handmade, store bought, printed napkins, magazines, copy, rice, tissue etc.)
- Canvas no smaller than 18x24in (not to exceed 30in) – may be square or rectangular
- Anything that can be adhered to a canvas
Classroom Location:
When you arrive for class please use the De Soto Street entrance to enter the FCAC parking lot. You may park anywhere in the lot that is available, please do not block cars from exiting. There are several parking spaces along Guillemard St. if you need closer parking than available in the parking lot.
The Martha Brooks McKee Education Annex (building #3), is located in the Northeast corner of campus, to your far right when entering the parking lot. The classroom has a wonderful mural with hands on it. See the campus map below.
